SuperSport United youngster, Khanyisa Mayo, jetted out to Spain last night where he will undergo a short trial spell with Spanish Segunda Liga side, Cadiz CF.
However, nothing materialised from his time in Portugal and the teenager returned to SuperSport where he is playing in the Multichoice Diski Challenge.
Now it has been confirmed that Mayo has left the country for Spain – he’s flying via Frankfurt, Germany – and he will spend at least a week with the club before they look to make a decision on him.
Ryan Hartslief, who teamed up with Tim Sukazi in his case, explained, “During the recent U20 AFCON we worked hard to promote South African players in Spain. Now there is a lovely opportunity for Khanyisa, and this shall be the first of many. I
want to promote South African football abroad. Our players need to play in the highest leagues in the world, but the ball in in the players’ court. I’m working on this as collaboration with Tim Sukazi, we shall start with a week’s trial and see how we go.
“The club have been fighting near the promotion spots all season. It would be great if they can get promoted to La Liga.”
Cadiz are currently fifth in Spain’s second tier, and while automatic promotion may be too much of an ask for them, they are well on track to secure a spot in the playoffs.
