Manchester City superstar Yaya Toure was reportedly arrested for drunk driving last week, but was released from custody after paying bail.
The 33-year-old, who was recently recalled to Pep Guardiola’s senior squad, reportedly drove under the influence of alcohol in Dagenham, London, on Monday last week.
According to BBC and AS, he was taken into police custody but was allowed to leave upon paying his bail.
« Yaya Toure, 33, of Macclesfield, Cheshire, was charged on Tuesday November 29 with a driving offence, namely driving a motor vehicle when alcohol levels (were) above the legal limit, » a police statement read, as quoted by AS.
« He will appear on bail at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 13. The charge follows a stop of a car in Dagenham at around 11pm on Monday, November 28. »
City and Toure have yet to comment on the incident, which has left many confused because the African superstar has confirmed previously that he is a devout Muslim, and even refused a bottle of champagne as a Man of the Match award in 2012.
