Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has said he’s unsure whether he will still be a Borussia Dortmund player next July, but until then the Gabon international wants to win a trophy with BVB and become the Bundesliga’s top scorer.
Aubameyang, 27, scored a brace in Dortmund’s 4-1 defeat of Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday and currently leads the scoring chart with 15 goals in only 12 appearances for the Schwarzgelben, and is on course to beat his 2014-2015 tally of 25.
However, despite having a contract until 2020, Aubameyang failed to commit his future to Dortmund beyond next summer.
« I really don’t know, » he told Bild when asked whether he’d stay at the Westfalenstadion.
Aubameyang has been linked with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, and has said several times that he hopes to play for Real Madrid one day. Yet, even though rumours of a possible departure have been persistent in recent months, the striker still wants to reach his goals at the Westfalenstadion.
« I want to at least win one trophy here this term, and also become the league’s top scorer, » he added.
BVB sporting director Michael Zorc, meanwhile, told Bild that he is « not interested in commenting on new speculation every single day. »
Elsewhere, 36-year-old Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has told kicker that he wants to continue his career next term.
« I still enjoy my profession, » he said. « There is no reason to retire. We will sit down in the winter. »
Weidenfeller is under contract at Dortmund until 2017, and the club have already said they want to renew the deal with the former Germany international, who is currently deputising for the injured first-choice goalkeeper Roman Burki.
The veteran also believes BVB can make a deep run in the Champions League if they get a favourable draw for the knockout stages.
« If we get into a flow and have the luck of the draw at the right time, everything is possible, » Weidenfeller said ahead of Dortmund’s trip to Real Madrid which is set to decide the winner of Group F.
On Saturday, midfielder Nuri Sahin returned to the starting formation for the first time this Bundesliga season.
Although the Turkey international had to be withdrawn with a minor knee injury which is set to sideline him for two weeks, according to the club’s official website.
« Nuri has different vibes now, » coach Thomas Tuchel told reporters after the match. « Despite all the difficult decisions against him. He went through a valley of tears, and now is stronger than ever before. »
Sahin had been linked with a switch away from Dortmund in the January transfer window, but already before his Bundesliga season debut said he did not want to leave the Westfalenstadion.
