Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure charged with drink driving

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has been charged with drink driving.

Police said that the 33-year-old Ivory Coast international was stopped in Dagenham on Monday night and charged the following day.

Toure was bailed and is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Dec. 13.

Mark Ogden reports from the Etihad as he feels now Chelsea have set the marker as the team to beat.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police Service said: « Yaya Toure, 33, of Macclesfield, Cheshire, was charged on Tuesday November 29 with a driving offence, namely driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above the legal limit.

« He will appear on bail at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 13. The charge follows a stop of a car in Dagenham at around 11pm on Monday, November 28. »

The midfielder came on as a substitute in Manchester City’s 3-1 defeat at home to Chelsea on Saturday.

In 2012, Toure declined a bottle of champagne awarded to him as a man of the match, citing his religious beliefs. He gave the bottle to teammate Joleon Lescott and said: « I don’t drink because I am a Muslim, so you keep it. »
