In the wake of their 6-1 defeat at the hands of Zambia on Wednesday evening, Mali coach Ba Baye insists they still have a chance to reach the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations semifinals.
The heavy defeat made things a little bit awkward for the Malians as they will now have to beat Guinea with a big score line for them to reach the top four.
Beston Chambeshi’s men scored two braces through Fashion Sakala and Edward Chilufya as well as goals from Emmanuel Banda and Enock Mwepu in Lusaka.
Mali skipper Abdoul Dante was the scorer for the Malians as they failed to neutralise their hosts.
“We were over excited when we scored the first goal and within a short period we conceded three goals,” said Ba.
“For sure all the departments did not work and everything just collapsed. Nothing worked for us. It is the first time that Mali has been humiliated in this manner.
“I can say that there are some great coaches who have also gone through what we have gone through, and there are great teams in the world who have gone through what we have gone through but the most important for us is to focus on the next game.
“We will go and sit down and reflect about the game because definitely we accept everything was out of order. We could not get anything right that is something that we need to reflect on.”
The Young Eagles now occupy the bottom in the group with one point and will hope to redeem themselves against Guinea on Saturday.
