The Guinea international intends to fly his father from his home country to watch him play his first game in the tournament this season
Liverpool target Naby Keita has revealed his plans to fly his father to watch him make his Champions League debut.
The RB Leipzig midfielder helped the Bundesliga newcomers finish second in the German top flight last season, qualifying for Europe’s elite club competition after winning promotion from the second tier just 12 months earlier.
Leipzig have so far rejected Liverpool’s advances for the 22-year-old, with the Reds willing to break their transfer record to sign Keita. However, Goal reported last week that the Guinea international remains eager to force a move to Anfield.
Liverpool finished fourth in the Premier League last season to qualify for the Champions League play-off round, meaning that if Keita does move to Jurgen Klopp’s side, he will have a chance to make his bow on that stage.
The Guinea international wants his father to watch him play his first game in the competition, and is willing to fly him from their home town of Conakry, where Sekou Keita once played in Guinea’s lower leagues.
« I’ll dedicate my first Champions League match to him, » the midfielder told Bild.
« I’ll invite and gift this match to him. He always believed in me. He has collected all my jerseys and told me that one day I’ll play in the Champions League. »
