With the transfer window closed, the details of the Coutinho dealings have come to light. As reported by ‘Sport’, Liverpool were willing to sell the Brazilian, with the transaction not taking place until the 2018/19 season.
Barcelona failed to land their top transfer target as Liverpool maintained Coutinho was not for sale. However, Spanish daily ‘Sport’ revealed that the Reds had agreed to sell Coutinho to Barcelona… next summer.
The Premier League outfit want to hold onto the Brazilian until 2018, when Naby Keita will join Klopp’s team after remaining on a season-long loan at RB Leipzig.
Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group opened the door for Coutinho to leave and were even willing to sign the paperwork before the transfer deadline so that the 25-year-old could join the Catalan side next season.
Barcelona attempted to sign the Brazilian for the current campaign and failed to meet their exorbitant demands. If Liverpool stay true to their word, however, Coutinho would be free to make the switch to the Camp Nou in 2018.
