Netherlands U19 manager Maarten Stekelenburg has announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in Finland, with Liverpool winger Bobby Adekanye missing in the list.
The Ibadan-born starlet was earlier placed in the provisional roster, and is one of the eight players placed on the standby list.
The 18-year-old Adekanye has not played for the Dutch youth teams since he suffered an ankle ligament injury while on international duty with the U17s.
The Netherlands U19s take on Belgium on August 30, Portugal September 1, before wrapping up their friendly schedule against the host county on September 4.
Adekanye is yet to play for Liverpool U23 team in the Premier League 2 in the new season.
Adekanye moved to Dutch capital Amsterdam at the age of four, making him eligible for both national teams. He joined Barca’s academy at the age of just 12 but the transfer fell foul of FIFA’s regulations because he moved to Catalonia without either of his parents going with him. Barcelona wanted him to stay at PSV, where he played last season, until the club’s dispute with FIFA was resolved. However, the player lost patience with the Spanish giants and decided on a move to Anfield. His dynamic playing style has led to comparisons being made between him and Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben. His agent, Josep Maria Minguella, claims Liverpool have already devised a plan to “get him into the first team in a few years”.
