According to the player’s agent, Brondby have turned down an offer from New York City FC for South African midfielder, Lebogang Phiri.
The 22-year-old has been a key member of the Danish outfit for some time now, and the Siya crew recently reported that talks were ongoing regarding a new contract after he entered into the last five months of his deal.
While Phiri recently admitted that he would be happy to commit to the club if the terms were right, he may also be tempted by the possibility of playing alongside a player like Andrea Pirlo in the Major Soccer League.
Søren Lerby, the player’s agent, told tipsbladet.dk that NYCFC have had an offer for the midfielder turned down after their head coach, Patrick Vieira, was impressed with him during a trip to Denmark.
It was also suggested that City could come back for Phiri at the end of the season when his contract expires, with Brondby seemingly unwilling to sell him at this stage as they continue to try and push for the Superliga title.
