Ahmed Elmohamady has had the release clause in his contract with Hull City activated by Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports.
The Egyptian player is reportedly returning from the Tigers’ preseason tour in Portugal to have talks with Villa.
Should the Birmingham club complete a deal for the versatile Pharaohs man, it will be the third time that manager Steve Bruce has signed him.
Bruce also brought Elmohamady to Sunderland in 2010 and Hull in 2012.
Despite the Tigers’ relegation from the Premier League last season, the Egyptian was one of the club’s top performing players and appeared in 41 matches across all competitions.
Bruce is looking to build a Villa team capable of securing promotion back to the English top flight and has already secured the services of former Chelsea captain John Terry.
