The new year brings about new excitement, and today we look at 10 Africans stars we believe you should keep an eye on in 2017, including two Mzansi talents!
Many of Africa’s top players are off to AFCON 2017 to represent their nations in Gabon, with the final of the tournament being played on 5 February.
The focus of this gallery, however, is on those Africans who will be looking to achieve greatness this year, including Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.
Mzansi stars Keagan Dolly and Phakamani Mahlambi have big years ahead of them for different reasons. The Mamelodi Sundowns man has been heavily linked with a move to Europe, while the Bidvest Wits winger recently returned from a lengthy injury.
Mahlambi has already impressed with his first start since returning to action, and 2017 might be the year he takes his young career to the next level.
Another African on the rise is Franck Kessie, the 20-year-old Atalanta midfielder who is already being compared to Manchester City’s Yaya Toure. The Ivorian has also been linked with a move to a club in the Premier League.
Chelsea’s Victor Moses will also be looking to continue his great form into this year, along with Manchester United’s Eric Bailly, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and the Citizens’ Kelechi Iheanacho.
Arsenal’s young Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi also has a big year ahead of him, and has already secured regular first team football with the Gunners this season.
